Sandhurst 2 v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 09 Aug 2020 at 1.00pm
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report On an absolute scorcher stand in skipper the Judge won the toss and sent his team to the shade as Crows decided to bat. Wickets were going to be crucial with Lemur-esque tail and an early breakthrough for the camels was a warning of things to come. Dave bludgeoned as only Dave can and at 41-1 things looked OK. At 75-5 things looked less OK and only the Judge holding firm on 34*. Judge fell at 79-6 and the tail was dangerously exposed. Anyone who has seen a lemur, will know that whilst its tail is quite long, it is also quite useful at getting it out of a sticky situation or two and some good hits from Crinners, P. Emes and Own Harries led us to 127 all out, which at least made it interesting. The camels showed their intent from the start with a short ball being sent sailing into the distance on the first ball. Rather than not bowl this delivery again, it seemed to be a popular one and The Sandhurst openers got off to a flyer. Excuses rained in from the lagging bowlers - "it's just too hot to bowl", and shedding excess jewellery to lighten the load did nothing to slow the rate and at 80-0 the skipper was worried. Bolstered by an influx of crows fresh from their victory at St Sebs, Dan P started what would turn out to be a full bowling spell and eventually the big swinging opener holed out to a good catch from C. Emes in the deep and finally we had a break through. Some clever thinking from P. Golding dismissed the other opener with the rare - "york him on the second bounce" delivery and despite some tidy bowling drawing out the final runs, Dan was broken - literally running out of energy with his final ball, the Crows were broken and the Camels got across the finishing line. The shame was immediately thrown upon the outcasted crows and any beer rewards for minor glory were immediately suspended whilst the board of enquiry considers its position. A poor game. But it was bloody hot.
