Match report Gypsy Curse Cannot Contain Crows as they Cavort to Crushing final over Conquest.
All rounder Partridge in the wickets and runs, 50 for the Colonel, and 4 wickets for A.Baines, as The sunday crows beat Gubbays in final over thriller at St Sebs.

The match started in disarray, as the pitch had been vandalised, and the ground probably cursed using a rabbit carcass. but due to some high speed ground keeping we managed to get it sorted out in time for a slightly deleyaed start.


Stand in sunday skipper, Mackenzie won the toss and elected to field first. hoping to take advantage of any residual moisture (and to ensure that full tea enjoyment was possible)

The crows opened up with the military medium pair of The Colonel and The Sarge, and things looked positive as they both beat the bat on numerous occasions, with the ball doing all sorts in the air, and off the pitch.
They reached the end of their spells without a wicket however and the skipper was looking desperate.
He turned to Mikey as the batsmen looked to open up, and he duly obliged with the break through, and another soon after. Baines came on at the other end and carried on the good work, as wickets began to fall with regularity. Partridge replaced him after just 4 overs and 3 wickets, due to an administrative error, and yet another left arm spinner joined the wicket fest.

the wickets had really slowed down the Gubbays run rate, and another one for Hawkes brought the last man out to bat way short of the 200 that had looked certain. An irate Baines returned for the 2nd to last over, and he only needed one ball to take the wicket, end the gubbays innings, and make a point to his skipper who had previously taken him off an over too early. They finished on 178 all out.

The teams retired to the club house for Bainesy's buffet which went down a storm
and then it was the crows turn to wave the wood at the round thing.

Shaw and Avrilli went out to open and despite some accurate and quick bowling were ahead of the run rate and looking comfortable. Each got into double figures and looked set, before skying catches to the fielders.

Gordon Hawkes and Alsidair Knox both went out, looked ok, then came back again. Heulin and Mackenzie followed, but when the skipper lost his bails first ball to a decent spinning delivery, At 70 for 5 the game was in the balance and the crows staring down the barrel.

Who better to stride commandingly to the crease at this time than the Colonel himself? He and Heulin stuck around and steadied the ship, putting together a nice partnership, but when Tom finally fell for a long and hard fought 9 we still looked short by some way.

Baines and Storey followed after a few boundaries and Partridge came to the crease, with two wickets remaining and the crows some way short of our target. He and Cluett began ticking the scoreboard over with a combination of quick running and intelligent shot selection. Cluett got to his fifty before finally succumbing, with the crows needing more than a run a ball off the last 4 overs.

The hopes of the Crows changing room began to evaporate, but Saj-The Sarge- Hussain strolled to the middle to join partridge and the two of them stroked off the remaining runs, with partridge smashing 4 fours,and winning the game with only two balls to spare. The home team on the balcony erupted in jubilant celebration while the opposition dejectedly readied themselves for the long journey back to north london.

Speaking after the game, to a womens weekly reporter, Mackenzie heaped praise on his team. " The Guys really pulled me out of a hole there, they really were superb to a man. When i got out we were in real trouble and the result was in the gary. but the lower order really produced, and pulled off an incredible last over win. M.O.M was close, with Dans 3 wickets and 24 n.o to win the game almost snatching it, but i thought A.Cluetts 59 was what really held the innings together at a difficult time, and it was this that allowed us to have the chance to win it at the end."
