Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Lost by 95 runs

Match report A tough game for the splinter team ended in a 95 run defeat. Bagshot had a strong batting line-up, and got a good score of 219, which was never threatened by the Crows batsmen.

In the field, Joseph and Childs toiled away, but to no avail for 12 overs. A dodgy hill up to the crease made hard work for Childs' run up.

The change of bowling brought quick rewards, with Garrett finally taking the first wicket. He soon had a second off a great caught behind by Will Avrili. With Ingram bowling tightly at the other end, the runs had slowed down. Soon Col had a well earned wicket with a great catch by Childs.

Unfortunately, their overs used up, on came Carson who proved expensive. First 3 overs weren't too bad, but the "1 more" was the wrong decision. Going for 37 off 4 overs, giving the middle order Bagshot batsmen some 6's. Luckily Ant Avrili was bowling tighter at the other end.

Ant went on to get 2 wickets, with a great take at slip by Stent, and then an easy catch for Carson. This proved to be the last wicket of the innings. Carson dropping the Bagshot number 5, though the ball had come down with snow on after being up in outer space for an inordinate amount of time. He did well to get the position right, just let it fly through him.

Set 219 to chase down, it always seemed a high target, and Crows didn't help themselves.

Ricky opening unfortunately didn't judge the line and was bowled. In came Ant who played himself in slowly with a 4 off his first ball, then trying to get his brother run out. Ant got a quick 15, but also fell foul to mis-judging the line.

In strolled Shaw, and back he strolled before anyone had a chance to see he'd left his chair. Second ball duck after the first ball was a wide, caught and bowled.

Not good for Crows, wickets falling, and umpires changing too quickly. Will followed leg before 13 runs later, and Riaz having just hit a 4 tried again and completely missed it. Crows were 48 for 5.

In came Childs and Stent, and finally 2 players willing to take their time. They put on a 40 partnership with some great strokes from both players. Crows had finally settled the storm. Then 3 balls before drinks (late by 1 over), Stent's wicket fell.

This was the end of our strong defence, wickets now came regularly, with 11 being the highest partnership after this. Garrett was the only player who stayed in, batting well, and not swinging out at every chance, posting a 19 unbeaten.

Crows finally fell 95 short. A good fielding team effort. Few lose balls let through, but everyone backing up, talking and chasing everything down.
