Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report CROWS WIN BY 4 WICKETS AT FALKLAND IN A SOLID TEAM DISPLAY.

Finally some decent weather, and the prospect of a 40 over match was much relished by all. As it turned out, it took just over 40 overs for the Crows to wrap up victory.

Falkland won the toss and elected to bat on a decent looking track. The openers went after it like they were chasing 50 off 5 overs. On his debut Matt Childs took a wicket with a shocker of a delivery that was fluffed up, and Brendy took a smart catch. Monty was bowling well at the other end and was rewarded with the wicket of the skipper who edged it to Shilts behind the stumps. Monty then tore through their middle order, keeping the carpenters of West Berkshire busy as he continually rattled the woodwork. Matt found his rhthym and was bowling really well at the other end. He then took the wicket of the opener, who had already used up most of his lives. With smart bowling he drew a massive edge that needed a diving catch from Shilts, the cheeky git then had the audacity to not walk, thankfully the Umpire raised the finger. The remaining wickets were taken without much being added to the scorecard, Monty got a well deserved 5 for. Dan and Mike chipped in with good spells and got themselves amongst the wickets. A truely brilliant fielding performance by the Crows, at one stage Falkland were 62-2, but were reduced to 89 all out.

The Crows came out to bat, before coming in after a few overs for what can only be described as a mediocre tea. The opening bowlers for Falkland bowled well and Brendy, Mike and the Tim brothers did well to see off the opening bowling. Matt then hit a great 30 before being given out LBW. He was well backed up by Pete Clarke who got 11. Dan and Col saw us home with some typically dogged yet intelligent batting, taking the chances as they came along to secure a 4 wicket win for the Crows.

Despite some wickets and a great knock by Matt Childs, man of the match goes to Monty for his 5 for. Every wicket was an absolute cracker!
