Warfield v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Saturday 1st XI on Sat 01 May 2010 at 1:00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report Crowthorne's league XI head into the league season with a win under their belt after outplaying a spirited Warfield side. Warfield chose to bat on a soggy green pitch, and looked in serious trouble at 20-3 before Cox and Newman steadied the ship and frustrated the Crows with a decent partnership. To Crows relief, Cox was eventually run out thanks to a diving stop from Saviour/Xavier/Kasabian, and a sharp throw from Junior leaving Deano to whip the bails off. The Red Barron was outstanding with the ball, making full use of the conditions with his medium pace swing and seam bringing comparisons in some quarters with a promising all-rounder named Aran Long. John Cole bowled with great heart on his first outing of the year to pick up 2 wickets. The report wouldn't be complete without mention of Fluffer's attempted run out, where he somehow managed to throw the ball at 90 degrees to the target and nearly for 4; a trick he neatly repeated on Sunday..

Warfield fronted up with a slightly bizarre opening bowling partnership, with Ruddle's left arm swing off a 30 yard run up coming out so slow he almost overtook it on the follow through. While at the other end, Psuarayi, off a two step spinner's run up, fired the ball in at pace, bouncing off a length up towards Deano's face.. he did well to glove it to the keeper. Captain Pete Northall made a quick-fire 63 before retiring to leave Crows needing 80 more to win with plenty of wickets in hand. A typical Crowthorne collapse, watched gleefully by Cox at deep mid-wicket fielding with the aid of a chair, left Crows indebted to Spence and Cole, whose big hitting finale saw Crows home with no wickets spare.

A delighted Pete Northall said of the victory "There's no way that counts as 'out' on my averages."

Over a few beers at the conclusion of the match, players on both sides agreed that the match was played in the best of spirits, and should hopefully be repeated in future years...
