Pinkneys Green v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Sunday XI on Sun 25 Apr 2010 at 2:00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 119 Runs

Match report Crows Sunday team kicked off their 2010 campaign with a resounding victory over Pinkneys Green. On a day of unsettled weather, Crows batted first. Rich Barron and Robin Stent got the Crows off to a flying start, with the Red Barron in particular finding the boundary with great frequency.

Barron was joined at the crease by big-hitting skipper Dave Shaw as the scoreboard continued to move along at pace. Barron went on to make a classy 82, his lowest score for the Crows, before he was undone by the left arm bowling of Niraz

This paved the way for debutant Pete Daines to stroll to the wicket. He survived a sharp dropped catch first ball and continued to ride his luck to make 6 before playing on. Shaw and Dan Partridge then added 60 for the 5th wicket before Shaw was dismissed when a half-century looked inevitable.

Crows other debutant, Rich Hester scored 6 including one sweetly timed 4 to the longest boundary. Crows ended up on 241 all out with ducks for Simon Sheppard and Harry Stent. This total was aided by some poor bowling, shoddy fielding and numerous dropped catches by the home side.

A veritable feast ensued at tea-time, with a fine spread being layed on. However the break also saw the arrival of several dark clouds overhead.

Pinkneys started off solidly before Suprej lost patience and holed out to Gibbings off the bowling of Miller. Miller then took 2 more quick wickets, including a decent catch at point from Pete Daines, as the whispers of "he might get all 10" began to spread round the field. He was promptly taken off by the skipper.

At the other end, Sheppard was bowling with pace, bounce and agression but for no reward. Wickets fell at regular intervals and the runs dried up with tight bowling from Barron and Partridge, who both claimed 2 wickets. There were also wickets for Harry Stent and Jason Gibbings as well as a ball in the face for wicketkeeper Howard Shore, who is 1 tooth short today.

The game ended in a stroll for the Crows who triumphed by 119 runs in cold, damp and generally miserble weather. Skipper Dave Shaw was pleased with the performance and the result, saying: "I'm very pleased with the performance and the result. It's a good start to the season."
