Match report More sunday heartbreak as O'Loughlins Crows lose by 1 wicket in Farnham royal runfest

O'Loughlin won the toss and elected to bat.

Suraj and O'Loughlin both scored 52 to give the others a platform, and Sykes smashed a belligerent 101, supported ably by Wilson (10*) withy the crows finishing on 253 for 7 off their 40 overs on a decent pitch.

In the field it was the youth who made the breakthroughs, with two wickets each for Emes and Wilson, with catches for Lewington and Wilson too. Wickets fell with regularity, but the opener Jackson remained entrenched and hit a classy 122. The ever improving Damon Emes took another wicket and then the big guns came on at the end, with Sykes finally removing the centurion with a smart caught and bowled, and the skipper himself taking two wickets to have the hosts 9 down and teetering on the brink, but they got home with 4 overs to spare, leaving the crows disconsolate.

A Crestfallen O'Loughlin spoke to the gathered reporters after the game and couldn't hide his disappointment. "we are devastated in there. We thought we had done enough but were unable to take the final wicket. I'm so proud of the team for their efforts, especially the youngsters who were all superb and deserved more." When questioned whether his decision to delay the introduction of Sykes and himself to bowl cost them the game, he merely shook his head ruefully and walked away, but his silence spoke volumes.
