Match report Crinnions heroics not quite enough as sunday crows suffer final ball defeat

Mackenzie won the toss and Crows batted first.

Both openers were out early, but the ship was steadied by Cartledge (20) and Brundish (59), before a flurry of wickets, including the skippers for a duck, left the crows in big trouble on 113 for 8. Crinnion strode to the crease and smashed a quickfire 71, in a partnership of 73 with Mcdowell and left the crows on a defendable 182 for 8 after 40 overs.

Crinnion continued his incredible performance with 2 wickets, 3 catches and a run out, while Brundish (2 for 32 off 7) and Baines (3 for 32 off 7)helped rip through the Lisvane middle order, leaving the opposition needing 5 off Crinnion's final over with 1 wicket in hand. They scored two 2s, leaving 1 required from the final ball. Crinnion bowled a rip snorter, the batsman missed it, and Taylor threw the stumps down with the non facing batsman looking short of the crease with his bat off the ground. The crows celebrated, thinking the game was won, but the umpire failed to put the finger up and they were left heartbroken in defeat, after a superb performance that deserved more, though they were made to rue the multiple catches that went down in the slips.

A Gloomy looking Skipper, speaking to the press after the game was full of praise for his young superstar, " Crinnion was incredible out there, almost single handedly keeping us in the game with the bat, taking wickets with the ball, and brilliant in the field, He was superb. it was a game where cricket was the real winner, I just wish we could have held some of those catches." When asked about his duck, Mackenzie refused to answer and walked out of the press conference with a face like thunder.
