Match report Skipper Says Sorry After Shambolic, and sloppy Sunday Showing.

The Sunday season started with a whimper away at Bagshot in a timed game.

Losing the toss, Mackenzie's Crows went into the field in the full heat of the day. Miller and Sykes opened the bowling and Monty put the 1st team star to shame going for 14 runs in 6 overs, while Sykes went for 29 off his 5. A bowling change brought no more luck as the' openers opened up against Cartledge and Brundish, though the latter was unlucky not to get a wicket as the skipper put down a regulation catch when A.Wilson was on 20(he went on to score an unbeaten 115 & retired.) Liam Jocelyn bowled a good spell and was unlucky not to get a wicket, Baines bought a couple of wickets but went for some runs, including 3 successive sixes. It took the youth of Coles and a diminutive Luke Taylor to really make inroads into the batting order, both taking two wickets each. Bagshot reached 229 for 7 at the break.

A good tea, including raspberry ripple icecream, came and went before Baines and Whitehurst took to the crease. After a minute or so Mackenzie remembered to send out two umpires and the innings could begin. Baines quacked and Whitehurst soon followed. Cartledge(who arrived in pyjamas) only made 8 and the innings was disintegrating already. The crows needed a hero, and that hero strode out to bat and smashed a classy unbeaten 60, including 9 fours, Mike Brundish really held the innings together. The rest failed to add many runs, except a spirited Monty who put more recognised batsmen in the shade, but when he was run out the game was all but over. All that was left of Mackenzie's terrible day at the office was for him to play on while trying to hit the ball to Camberley when blocking out should have been the order of the day.

Speaking to the press after the game, a shamefaced skipper apologised for his and the teams performance, taking full responsibility for the defeat. He said they went into the game under prepared and rusty, and promised a better showing at home next week.. He did single out the 3 young bowlers for praise, and welcomed Brundish's first 50 and baggy green, but the main focus was on his own poor game, saying "As skipper it was unacceptable, all I can do is try to put it right next week."
