Match report SUNDAY CROWS EDGED OUT IN MORTIMER WEST END THRILLER

On a beautiful sunny day the Crows took on MWE. RP Hester won the toss and elected to bat. This seemed a good decision with the opening bowlers being seen off for just the loss of 1 wicket, and although the rate was slow, the Colonel and the Doctor/Judge were building a good platform. At drinks the message was passed onto colonel Cluett to 'get on with it'. He was then shortly out. The scorebook says 'bowled', but the truth is he reverse swept a wide onto his stumps, it was genuinely funny! Leachy was out the next ball trying to prod* at one.
* smash it into next week.

Jules kept going and found good partners (although comical running) with Micky. And we ended with a respectable 178-7. It seemed slightly below par but defendable.

Tea was very pleasant, although as discussed on the forum why heat up the oven just to cook garlic bread in it...very strange.

MWE came out to bat with all guns blazing and were scoring quick runs, but giving away a lot of chances. The Crows kept their spirits up and maintained good discipline in the field taking a few catches at deep mid wicket. MWE were trying to get away but we kept pegging them back and trying to make a game of it. The partnership of Widgeraine and Telford was slow, but frustrating as they were bulding a platform to go on and win the game. Then came the controversial moment. Rupes bowled a full toss(questionable no ball) to Widgeraine who flashed hard at it. It smashed into the shoulder of RP Hester standing up to the stumps, it pinged into the air and the skipper gloved the rebound. Hesistant celebrations followed and the Crows really thought they were in this. The Judge then came on and claimed 2 quick wickets to leave MWE 8 down, but thanks to the calmness of young Telford MWE just crept over the line with 7 balls to spare.
