Lisvane v Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Touring Party on Fri 13 Sep 2013 at 1.00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 1 run (D/L method)

Match report Crows first ever match on foreign soil results in a dramatic 1 run victory using the Duckworth Lewis method.

Skipper Rich Hester earned his Baggy Green by taking 3 catches and 3 stumpings in a reduced 25 over match.

A dark Cardiff sky was looming as the touring Crows arrived at Lisvane CC. Skipper Shilts won the toss, and after the 10 wicket mauling in August decided to bowl first. This was to be an inspired decision. The Crows took to the field and started with a bang. Jeff Cluett bowled the first ball, which was edged and taken with a one handed catch by Hester. 2 balls later another edge behind and Lisvane were 2 down. The final ball of the over saw chaotic scenes as the batsmen thought they had reached the boundary, only for the alert Chalmers to wang the ball back in for a run out...3 wickets in the first over. Monty and Jeff bowled superbly, Jeff taking a further 2 wickets with another caught behind (about a mile into the murky Cardiff sky). All the Crows bowlers continued to bowl well, with 3 wickets for Partridge and 1 a piece for Shepherd and Davies. Both were assisted by the wicket keeping of Hester, who took 3 stumpings to add to the 3 catches to earn himself a Baggy Green on his 58th Crows appearance. Only the second ever Crows player to take 5 dismissals in a match. Lisvane were all out for 118.

The Crows turned round quickly because of the falling rain. Sparkle and tour vice captain Nick McDonagh went out to open. Nick fell to a first ball duck, earning himself a rather fetching duck hat. Sparkle remained out there to top score with 32 not out, earning himself a rather fetching Crow hat. The rain continued to fall hard, and Joe came out and smashed a quickfire 22. The game was called off after 17 overs with the Crows on 79-6. Duckworth Lewis calculations revealed that the Crows were 1 run above the rate, earning their first ever victory on foreign soil.

The touring Crows then savoured an excellent tea, before setting off for Cardiff Bay and an evening of drinking. Saturday saw the Crows attend the Swalec to watch England take on Australia in an ODI. It was a fantastic match, with Joss Buttler hitting 7 in the final over to see England home. I have compiled a list of some of the memorable moments of the Crowthorne CC Tour 2013:

- Mikey and Dave drinking 4 cans a piece before a ball was bowled
- Taking 3 wickets in the first over at Lisvane, what a start
- Shilts' 6 dismissals
- Jeff getting to £125,000 on Who Wants to be a Football Millionaire
- Clint McKay's hat-trick for Australia
- Jimmy pipping Nick to the sweepstake on the last ball of the ODI
- Michael Clarke showing a humourous side of Australian cricket by taking the mick out of his own team, endearing himself to the Swalec crowd
- Tommy H suddenly appearing back in the stands wearing a 'Wiltshire Cricket' sweater, took a lot of explaining
- Tommy H eating breakfast or brunch for every meal
- Rich downing 6 shots for his dismissals, being egged on by the door staff
- Joe (and Monty) getting rather too attached to the blow up kangaroo
- Sparkle and Mikey somehow getting out of bed and into a taxi to the Swalec
- Jeff's continual sledging of Nathan Coulter-Nile, playing to the crowd was Jeff!
- Doing a guard of honour for Sparkle as he walked out of Tesco Express
- Joe getting thrown out of a Wetherspoons for being sick in the toilets
- Jeff getting in at 6am and staying up in the bar until breakfast opened, top effort
- Jimmy shamefully handing back a beer snake to a steward, bad skills!
- Joe and Mikey getting in at 7.45am and bumping into Shilts, they looked like 2 kids who'd just been caught being naughty by there Dad!
