Match report Crowthorne 124ao bt MWE 104ao by 20 runs

Crowthorne pulled of a tense win by bowling out Mortimer West End 2’s for 104 after themselves being restricted to 124. Crowthorne, missing several regular players from their line-up, battled to a win that never looked probable. West End Skipper Mark Gillon put in a fine all-round captain’s performance but this was not enough as he lacked support with the bat.

Crows innings got off to a bad start losing Simon Sheppard for 0. However Micky Gopie and Dean Timms ticked the score along nicely before Gopie fell to a sharp catch from Mark Gillon. Timms played the anchor role as others came and went at the other end. He ended up with a fine 52 and pushed Crows to a semi-respectable score. Young left-armer Mark Wheeler ended with figures of 4-25 for West End as Crows struggled with a drying pitch.

Gillon took 4-23 and then hammered a quick fire 43 with the bat, but it was to be in vein as his team crumbled around him. Dan Partridge and Andrew Taylor did the main damage early on with Taylor taking 2 in 2 balls and finishing with 2-14. Partridge ripped the middle order out with 3 wickets in 1 over, having earlier trapped Gillon lbw. Richard Barron cleaned up the tail, having big hitting Andy Prinn caught in the deep by Simon Sheppard for 0 and then finishing it off by claiming Chris Sellars leg before for 1. Partridge ended with figures of 5-35 and Barron took 2-24.

Crows Skipper Simon Sheppard was very pleased with the win. “Although our batting didn’t really fire, we still managed to get to a competitive total in what were difficult batting conditions. I think our bowlers did a great job with Dan Partridge causing problems for their batsmen with almost every ball. Although we weren’t at our best, we managed to put in a good team performance and never gave up hope of winning even when West End looked favorites for most of the game. We’ve got some big games coming up and hopefully we can build a winning run. ”
