Match report Crowthorne (32) beat Waltham St Lawrence (7) by 4 wkts
WSL: 162 a/o (Luke Jouanides 5 - 36)
C: 163 - 6 (Terry Charles 56 n/o, Peter Northall 43)

Crowthorne continued their unbeaten start to the league season with a 4 wicket win over previously unbeaten Waltham St Lawrence. WSL batted first on a decent pitch but lost wickets at regular intervals thanks to good tight bowling from Terry Charles and Luke Jouanides. Charles, fresh from 5 wickets the week before, took 3-36 and 2009 Player of the year Jouanides, carried on his impressive form from last season with yet another 5 wicket return. He took 5-36 in 12 overs and looked every much the bowler that took 4 consecutive 5-wicket hauls at the end of 2009

Only a last wicket stand of 50 between Gullalar and Herbert gave the visitors a reasonable total. They frustrated the Crows with a resilient partnership and pushed the score up to 162 before Gullalar succumb to one hefty shot too many and was clean bowled by Charles. Ross Chalmers and Dan Partridge picked up the other wickets in an excellent bowling and fielding display from the Crows.

Crows reply started quickly but lost wickets early on. Simon Sheppard falling to an excellent catch and Steve Northall edging behind. Skipper Pete Northall then played a typical innings to race to 43 and put the Crows on top before miscuing one and being caught at midwicket. Ross Chalmers was looking in good nick before succumbing to an extraordinary catch, the fielder taking the ball behind him when it had already passed him. This left it to bowling heroes Charles and Jouanides to see Crowthorne home. They put on a partnership of 70 with Charles in particular playing some expansive shots as the Waltham fielders and bowlers toiled in the scorching heat. Jouanides was solid as a rock at the other end scoring 20 not out and Charles cruised past his fifty and ended up on 56 not out. The Crows reached their target with more than 10 overs to spare.

Crows handed League debuts to James Carson and Roger Hiscoe and had all-rounder Steve Northall playing despite obvious injury and discomfort.

Crows Skipper Pete Northall told The Times: This was an excellent win against a good team. We were a bit depleted today with a couple of the guys playing with injuries and a couple of key players missing but we put in a great team performance and are happy with the result. Terry and Luke got the wickets and runs but we fielded well as a team and are very pleased especially as Waltham St Lawrence had won all of their previous matches this season.
