Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Crowthorne Sunday XI v Englefield on Sun 08 Aug 2010 at 2:00
Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club Won by 73 Runs

Match report Crows Sunday Team cruised to a emphatic win over Englefield at New Ground on Sunday.

An unfamiliar line-up, including old faces Phil Brown and Lawrie Hill and guest Joe Cannon managed to post 223-7 in 40 overs with Steve Northall smashing an unbeaten 50 and Arcadian Casuals supremo Joe Cannon hitting a well-crafted 47.

Calypso Kid Sean Clarke made 20 with a series of well timed strokes all round thie wicket. Cannon and Shore got the Crows off to a steady, if not spectacular start, before the runs really started to flow before Shore took a nasty blow to the hand, but valiantly/stupidly carried on batting. Monty Miller rounded off a horror show of a weekend with the bat with another duck, to put him clear at the top of the Duck prize and in line to pick up the coveted award for the 3rd time. There were brief cameo's from Gibbings, Partridge and Brown to take the score to 223

Crows ended that game with 9 men after Howard Shore's Crows career ended with a broken hand and a trip to the Royal Berks and Lawrie Hill celebrated his 3 wickets and return to Crows action with a suspected Beckham/Rooney style metatarsal injury.

Englefield's reply got off to a good start with their hard-hitting skipper hitting everything he could get his bat on and at the drinks break they looked handily placed, above the run-rate and 9 wickets to play with.

However Joe Cannon, following on from his 5 wickets against the Crows the week before, weaved his magic at New Ground once again to claim 4 victims, whilst stand-in skipper James Carson engineered a run-out with a smart throw from midwicket. Englefield gracefuly gave us a sub fielder who promptly took 2 decent catches!

The game ended with Brendy-wendy clean bowling Mr Angry to seal the victory by about 80 runs. Reports are that Brendy is still celebrating his wicket now. Crowthorne Legend, Jeff Flood and Mrs Legend were more than welcome spectators as were "Captain Round-arm" Paul Barnes and his 9-months pregnant wife. Unfortunaty the excitement of watching Howard and Joe Put on 5 in 7 overs wasn't enough to entice Baby Barnes into the mortal realm. Good to see you in good health, Jeff and good luck with the baby, Barnesey.
